Are Essential Oils/Extracts Toxic?

There’s understandable concern around the use of essential oils for pets—and much of it stems from misinformation or products that aren't formulated with animals in mind. While certain essential oils can be harmful when misused or sourced poorly, most negative reactions are linked to synthetic ingredients, improper dilution, or essential oils not intended for pets.

When essential oils are carefully selected, responsibly sourced, and properly diluted, they can offer gentle, effective support for comfort and wellness. Every ingredient we use is chosen with your pet’s safety in mind.

Here’s how we use essential oils safely in our formulations:

  • Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus): This essential oil supports skin comfort and natural pest defense in dogs when properly diluted. Because eucalyptus can be too stimulating for cats’ respiratory systems, we do not recommend using eucalyptus-containing products like Remedy on cats.
  • Peppermint oil: In its concentrated form, peppermint is too strong for pets. However, when carefully diluted and blended into a pet-safe formula, it provides a cooling sensation and supports skin comfort without overwhelming your dog’s system.
  • Lemongrass oil: Lemongrass is known for its natural cleansing and purifying properties. It helps maintain a healthy skin surface and contributes a fresh, clean scent to grooming products like Restore.
  • Lavender oil: Lavender is one of the most widely recognized essential oils for relaxation. In Calm, it helps promote emotional balance and a sense of ease during stressful situations.
  • Rosehip seed oil: While not an essential oil, rosehip seed oil is included in several of our formulas for its antioxidant content and ability to hydrate and nourish the skin, supporting resilience and balance.

We recognize that every pet is unique, and even high-quality ingredients can occasionally cause individual sensitivities. If your pet shows any signs of irritation or discomfort, discontinue use and reach out—we’re here to help guide you with care and personalized support.
